The meanings of ten

Did you know...

  • 10 is the atomic number of neon.

  • There are ten commandments

  • There were ten plagues inflicted on Egypt

  • It's the number of violin sonatas composed by Beethoven

  • 10 is the number of yards the offense must advance to maintain possession in four downs
  • a person who is attractive and physically flawless is often said to be "a ten"
  • The number of year Alex has been alive

Ten years seems like a long time! If you had to spend 10 years in prison it'd feel like an eternity, if you had 10 years to loose 10 pounds you'd feel like.. woo hoo no pressure. But to have your first kid turn 10 years old.... seems like a blink of the eye. It's just crazy! 10 years ago I was nursing a newborn and getting up every two hours. Tonight he gave me a hug and a kiss and put himself to bed. We've come so far in such a short time that should've felt like forever!!!

So let me tell you a little bit about my 10 year old Alex.

He's in 4th grade this year and has an absolutely AMAZING teacher this year. If she doesn't end up on his list of all time favorite teachers I'll be shocked. She has been such a great teacher for Alex and has really embraced Alex and his "quirks" and is really encouraging him in so many ways. He's finally an avid reader and I have to tell him more than once that it's time for lights out at bed time because he's so lost in what he's reading!

He continues to LOVE Lego's and spends hours and hours building contraptions and weapons out of them. He even got a Lego shaped alarm clock for Christmas that he thought was the coolest!

He got glasses a few weeks ago, and dreaded it everyday from ordering the glasses to actually getting the glasses. He was so worried he'd look like a nerd. But after a few days he informed me that he thought he looked better with his glasses.

He's starting to notice the girls in his class a little more . But there have been a few occasions where he's wanted to wear a certain outfit or made an extra effort to comb his hair a certain way in the hopes of gaining the attention of a young lady in his class. I can't help but appreciate that social pressures are finally getting my kid to TRY to match and wear non holy/stained clothes and brush his stinking teeth!!!

He's a Very smart kid and has a very witty sense of humor. I know most people think their kids are amazing. But I really am in awe of this little man. Even with his challenges, he keeps plugging along and most of the time keeps a happy optimistic outlook on life. I KNOW that he's going to be an amazing man and have and amazing life! I'm so glad that I get to come along for the ride!

Here we are celebrating out at Nana's house. He got a really cool helicopter from his buddy Rick that surprisingly is still working and in one piece!

Sweetheart's Dance

We had the 2nd annual Sweethearts Dance at Westgate over the weekend, and this year there were TWICE as many couples that came to the dance! It was crazy!!! I have no idea if people had fun, if they danced or if it was too hot or too cold because I was behind the curtain taking pictures with My friend Sally. So that part was a little disappointing for ME, but then the dance was suppose to be for ME!!! Leah and her Daddy went all dressed up and had a GREAT time! She was of course all dolled up in PINK and wore her first ever pair of tights. She LOVED it! We had a DJ with the crazy dancing lights and tables and tables of sweet treats! She danced with two of her favorite little friends the whole night! (You can see how rosy their cheeks are) I'm so glad that everyone seemed to have so much fun! Especially my two sweethearts!
